A meet and greet competition with Taylor Swift was cancelled due to fears a "creepy" guy would win.

The contest - which gave fans the chance to get a photograph with the singer backstage at one of her concerts - was axed after an anonymous 4chan user appealed to members of the community to help his creepy 39-year-old friend win the the title of 'Taylor Swift's Biggest Fan'.

Organisers were seemingly freaked out by the user's requests to help his friend Charles win the vote so he could "sniff Taylor Swift's hair".

The anonymous user wrote: "My creepy 39-year-old friend named Charles would like to crush all those girls' dreams (and then sniff Taylor Swift's hair cos he's into that) by winning this instead... Help him crush the dreams of these girls and give him a chance to make a complete ass of himself by blatantly just sniffing her hair with the cameras rolling."

Within hours of the appeal, Charles rocketed to the top of the leader board, with the suspected help of hacking.

Though it's not clear if he is a real person, Charles described his own motivations more innocently.

He wrote on his profile: "I'm a 39-year-old man and I love Taylor so much and don't care that both adults and children mock me for it,"

Contest hosts, Boston, USA's Kiss 108 FM were forced to cancel the competition under the decision it had been compromised.

In a statement, they said: "Disappointingly, we have determined that the integrity of the 'Taylor Swift's Biggest Fan' contest has been compromised. In accordance with our contest rules, effective immediately, the contest has been terminated. We apologise to all of our loyal listeners who have participated."

This isn't the first time Taylor Swift has been targeted by internet trolls on the image-based social network. Last year, a competition offering a school a chance to have the singer perform was won by a school for the deaf following a campaign by 4chan users.
