The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are worried about being a "middle-aged" band.

The indie trio - comprised of Karen O, Nick Zinner and Brian Chase - are set to release their new album 'Mosquito' later this month, but are concerned their age will cause them to fall back into their musical comfort zone and prevent them from producing up-to-date material.

Speaking to British radio station Xfm, Nick said: "I do think it's harder being like a middle-aged band or whatever because we don't want to repeat ourselves and want to always do something new and fresh."

"Sometimes it's easier to fall back on comfortable patterns of whatever but we're trying to make new things.

"When you are starting out - at least for us - things have a tendency to be more innocent and you don't over-think things so much."

The band are currently on tour in support of 'Mosquito' and Karen previously admitted she and her bandmates had to regain their confidence to create the record, which they had been writing since 2010.

She previously said: "We put a lot of pressure on ourselves for this record. It's been four years since our last one and I guess you just get feelings for the past.

"All the emotions that have been building up in the last 12 years just come flooding back if you're not on top of it. There's always that self doubt to combat. But yeah, we got through it and feel really good about it."

'Mosquito' is out on April 15.
