Papa Roach @ Download Festival 2009

I bumped into singer Coby Dick backstage earlier in the day and couldn’t even manage to speak I was that star struck (that doesn’t happen very often you know) so there was no way I was missing checking Papa Roach out as they opened for Trivium on the second stage on Sunday evening.

Playing everything from tracks from the album which launched them in 1999, Infest, to their new single, Lifeline, Papa Roach put on one hell of a show and by the time it drew to a close I was actually gutted that it was over.

This was the first time I’d ever seen Papa Roach live, and I was completely taken back to the days in my bedroom when I used to layer on the eyeliner whilst listening to the cassette I’d made of my favourite Papa Roach, Sum 41 and Systom Of A Down songs at the time.

Coby was every inch the ‘rock star’ I’d imagined, and I was kicking myself for not diving on him when I had the chance earlier that day, although I don’t think that jumping on the back of such a muscle-bound bloke would be the wisest move on my part.

Oh well, there’s always next year.
