You Me At Six

You Me At Six

Saturday night was You Me At Six's first ever show in Preston, and the atmosphere in the sold-out venue reflected the special occasion.

Lower Than Atlantis opened the show strongly, in a set highlighted (in part) by a brief medley of Foo Fighters' hits 'Everlong' and 'The Pretender'.

An hour or so before the doors opened, Deaf Havanah told us that they never really like the opening night of the tour.

You certainly couldn't tell, as they powered through a high-energy set to keep the crowd excited.

By the time You Me At Six took to the stage, 53 Degrees felt more full and carried a better atmosphere than it has in a while.

With Sinners Never Sleep debuting in the Top 3, the band look ready to move onto much bigger things, and the fans were savouring the chance to see them in an intimate setting possibly one last time.

In a set that covered all three of their albums, You Me At Six's sound was complemented by an impressive light show, although tonight was about the fans and the music.

Josh Franceschi led the crowd through the set, as they faithfully sung back every single word, at times drowning out the band.

From up-beat fan-favourites like 'Save It For The Bedroom' and 'Jealous Minds Think Alike', the set (along with the album's recent chart performance) cemented what many of us have been saying for years - You Me At Six have all the tools to be one of the biggest rock bands in the country.

From the anthemic 'Liquid Confidence' to newer songs like 'Bite My Tongue', the band showed all the qualities and talent that their recent success would suggest.

Their three-song encore (starting with new single 'Loverboy' and ending with 'Underdog') was highlighted by a stunning rendition of 'Stay With Me', with a sound and performance far bigger than a venue this size should have allowed.

You Me At Six are band you shouldn't miss on this tour, as they put on a versatile show that made the venue seem grand or intimate from track to track.

Whether they can achieve this quality when much bigger venues come calling remains to be seen, but after this show, you'd be foolish to bet against You Me At Six.
