Rating: 4/5

Hermione Hennessy has been best know for managing the career of her father Christie Hennessy she has now stepped out from his shadow to release her debut album Song My Father Taught Me.

And it’s hard to believe that Hermione has not released a record before now because she has such hauntingly beautiful vocals - this is a very touching album from start to finish.

She teams up with Tim Ross for the opening song He Never Fades, a very melodic and uplifting song and it just sets the tone for the entire album.

He Never Fades is just one of the tracks where Hennessy also shows off her song writing skills Echoes Of Love & Hello Again being just some of the other songs that she has penned.

There is just something so simple about the arrangements of this album, Hennessy’s vocals take centre stage and they are supported by some really beautiful strings and piano, When Love Was Young is a perfect example of how simplicity has been executed to perfection to make a very beautiful song.

There are some really great covers on the album as well Fall at Her Feet, by Crowded House, is just one of them and it is far more stripped back than the original.

Still there is a pop vibe to this track but the album encompasses a wide range of sounds from Blues on Let Me Go Home to a jazz feel on Make Me A Channel Of Your Piece.

And an album that is as much about her relationship with her father as it is about Hermione as an artist would not be complete without some covers of her father’s work - they come the form of Oh Jealous Heart, Late At Night & Soho Square, the latter being a duet with her father.

And it’s without a shadow of a doubt these are the most emotional tracks on the album as Hermione puts her own delicate spin on these well known tracks.

Oh Jealous Heart is the best of those covers as Hennessy’s captivating and enchanting vocals are supported by an acoustic guitar - less is always more.

Hermione Hennessy has shown that she is not just the daughter of a famous singer but that she is a talented singer and song-writer in her own right. This is a beautiful record.
