Rating: 4/5

It has been little over a year since The Vaccines released their debut album What Did You Expect From The Vaccines and now they are back with Come Of Age.

And The Vaccines have delivered a great and energetic record that should inject a bit of life into the indie rock scene - let’s face it it has been as dull as dishwater of late.

Come Of Age is an album to get excited about as The Vaccines have really developed musically in the year since their debut.

There appears to be a maturity to the writing as well as even more confidence in their riffs and melodies - as a result they have a collection of eleven top quality tracks.

No Hope is the opening song on the record and there is a real vibrancy and energy to this track - the guitars giving it a real kick.

I Always Knew is one of the songs that really shows off the development of the band as there is an emotion in this track that we have not seen before.

I Always Knew is a song of great contrasts as the verse is quiet and restrained before the chorus explodes and shows off that energy once again.

The vocal from Justin Young are also great as the quieter and slower choruses allow his to show off the richness of the lower end of his voice.

Teenage Icon is another great track an is one of the radio friendly songs that we have come to expect from the band.

Once again the guitar skills of Freddie Cowan are on show and the solos on this track really are fantastic.

I Wish I Was A Girl is perhaps the one track that doesn’t quite work but the band redeem themselves as they close out with Lonely World.

There is a bit of a haunting feel to the opening of this track and it does sound completely different to any of the other tracks on the record.

There is perhaps also a bit of a vintage feel to this album as you can hear influences from the sixties and bands such as The Ramones.

And while there is that vintage sound it also feel s fresh and new and it is a sound that works really well - they show that they are more than just a straightforward indie rock band.
