Rating: 4/5

Miccoli are a trio who have been whipping up a storm on the live circuit over the last couple of years but now they are concentrating on releasing records.

Idle Stranger EP is the latest offering from the band - which is made up of twins Adriano and Alessandro and their sister Francesca.

Now I am going to get my one moan out of the way as while this is a five track record we only get two songs; we get four different versions of Idle Stranger and so it is more like a single release than an EP.

Having said that Idle Stranger is a terrific track and if this is the kind of music that they are going to be putting out over the next couple of years then we really should be very excited.

There is a raw feel to the opening to the track as the male and female vocals contrast beautifully but the backing track feel kicks in to give it more of pop feel.

Idle Stranger moves back and forth between quiet moments that focus on the vocals to louder elements where the anthemic backtrack is allowed to take centre stage; this is a fantastic contrast that works really well.

The next four tracks are different remixes of the radio edit and the acoustic version is the one that really does stand out. This is completely stripped back where the sibling’s voices are supported by just a guitar and a piano.

With this version of the track you can really appreciate the fantastic harmonies that the three of them are able to create.

The EP is rounded off by Fear, another stripped back track. Once again you really get to hear their voices as well as listen to the story that they tell with their lyrics.

Miccoli are a band that move between pop and soft rock and they really are a trio that we should be excited about as the tracks on this EP really are very special.
