We are fast approaching September, and with that comes gradual realisation that Autumn will soon be upon us. I’m going to give a quick rundown of all the excitement we’ve had this summer to remind us all that we’re not quite ready for Pumpkin Spiced Latte’s and woolly gloves to makes their return...

The Royal Wedding

This summer another of the nation’s favourite royals got hitched. Princess Harry married his American Sweetheart, and suits Alumni, Meghan Markle on the 19th of June in a ceremony watched by the world at St George’s Chapel. The wedding, with its diverse guest list, and rousing speech from Rev. Curry, the first black presiding bishop and primate of the Episcopal Church, gave everyone in England a real reason to be patriotic.

The World Cup

What would a rundown of this summer be without mention of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where England defied the odds and made it to the Semi-finals of the competition. The lads, accompanied and encouraged by national treasure Gareth Southgate, brought the country together in more ways than they know. They encouraged community and friendship and brought the country together to rally for a common good.

The weather

And finally the biggest surprise of the season, the shock heatwaves and temperatures that would not have been out of place in southern Europe. Evenings spent lolling about in front of fans, weekends at BBQ’s, or the sea side, or your local outdoor pool. The weather (and the much needed vitamin D injection that it brought with it) reminded everyone that maybe England isn’t so bad after all...

What a great summer it has been, and I for one am going to be extremely sad to see it go. Let’s just hope that we have the same levels of excitement, community, and hot weather in Summer 2019, but for now... Roll on Christmas!
