Whatever the age of your kids, or whether you’re the big kid yourself, there are plenty of ways you can fill up your Easter basket; much more fun than just exchanging gifts in person and at least they’ll last longer than chocolate!

Here are some ideas to get you started:

1. First you’ll need an Easter basket – improvise with something you already own or order online. From felt baskets to something a bit more traditional, or even a vintage wire basket that will stand the test of time (as well as any sibling fights).

2. Buy some small empty cardboard or plastic eggs and fill them with little fluffy chicks or mini chocolate eggs. You can go as cheap and cheerful as you like. Take a look at the selection on the Little Crafty Bugs website for some examples.

3. If it’s good enough for McDonalds’ Happy Meals, it’s good enough for your Easter egg basket. Hide some books for some Easter-inspired reading, for example the Easter Bunny flap book by Usborne Publishing, which is perfect for babies and toddlers, or The Story of Easter Activity Book by Bethan James, if you want to remind the little ones what it’s really all about.

4. One of the latest playground crazes are the funny little Shoulder Buddies, each marked with their own unique design on their tummy. There are lots to collect and with their bright colours they will make Easter hunts a lot more interesting.  Another popular friend to attach to yourself are the Floppets, originally from the USA and now rapidly making their way across the UK. You can put them on anything, stationary, fingers, shoelaces, people who annoy you without them noticing – you name it.

5. Lastly, all you need to make the hunt complete, and to not completely neglect the Easter theme, is an Easter bunny outfit to kick-start the race for the goodies (as well as some bunny ears or even an Easter bonnet for anyone taking part). Check out the Deluxe White Easter Bunny Rabbit costume from Struts if you want to freak the little ones out… we mean be all cute and cuddly!
