With 85 per cent of Little Chef customers stopping off when on a long drive and 66 per cent on the way to a UK holiday, Little Chef have noticed a resurgence of old fashioned in car entertainment for kids. Activities that not only engage and educate children and encourage family interaction but most importantly don’t cost a penny.

Forget the DS, Little Chef has asked their customers and staff to list their favourite family car games and while it was close, the firm favourites are:

1. Eye-Spy (spotting game where the clue is in the first letter of the word)
2. 20 Questions (guessing game where you can only answer yes or no)
3. Pub Cricket (where runs are scored by the number of ‘arms’ and ‘legs’ in a pub name)
4. My Mummy Went Shopping (repeating and adding to a shopping list until someone forgets)
5. Eddie Stobart (shouting ‘Eddie Stobart’ when spotted then guessing the name on the front)
6. Backseat bingo (pre created sheets with pictures that you must spot along the way)
7. Car Snooker (where participants create ‘breaks’ by spotting car colours and are timed)
8. The ‘are we there yet game?’ (first person to say it has a forfeit to complete at the next stop)

Little Chef Chairman Graham Sims said: “Although games consoles have a role to play in modern day life, it seems it’s still the classic car games that kids prefer as it involves playing a game with the family rather than a solitary game on a console.

"We all remember family holiday trips and the enjoyment that classic games such as these can bring, kids love them because they’re fun and parents love them because the whole family can play together. It’s a great way to start the family holiday," he added.
