Tired Working Mums Actually go to The Office For a Rest

More than two thirds of working mothers admit they enjoy going to the office for a break from childcare, according to a new survey.

Despite being busy at work, 68 per cent of the women surveyed by shopping site MyCashbackSuperstore.com said they appreciated the time away from their maternal duties.

I think the survey shows just how wonderful and versatile working British mothers are. Not only are they great mums but they also enjoy their jobs and appreciate the time they spend....

Three quarters of the women surveyed said they went back to work after having a baby for financial or career reasons but a hardcore 17 per cent were honest enough to admit that the need for a break from their children was a driving factor in the decision to return to work.

One woman told pollsters: “I thought I’d miss my children terribly when I returned to the office after maternity leave but once I’d settled back in I started loving my job more than ever.

“Don’t get me wrong, I love being a mum and it’s by far the most important part of my life. But children are so demanding. It’s lovely to get away for a few hours and be a professional person again instead of a mum.”

Another working mother commented: “I was away from work for so long after I had my twins that I almost forgot who I was. When my husband finally persuaded me to enroll them in nursery I went back to work and couldn’t believe how peaceful the office seemed to be.

“I’d gotten so used to the sound of screaming children that I’d forgotten what the quiet hum of an office sound like. I must admit I do enjoy the break and when it’s time to go home it’s wonderful to be able to step back into the mother role again.

“It isn’t easy to juggle work and being a great mum but if you can get the balance right it’s incredibly rewarding to be able to do both.”

However, despite the need for respite, 23 per cent of mums polled said they didn’t get any pleasure from the time spent at work away from their little ones.

A spokeswoman for MyCashbackSuperstore.com said the results underlined just how tough it is to be a modern mum. She said: “Being a mum is a tough job so combining that with holding down another job outside of the home must be incredibly challenging.

“Yet it seems the majority of working mothers admit to actually enjoying the time they spend at work away from their children.

“I think the survey shows just how wonderful and versatile working British mothers are. Not only are they great mums but they also enjoy their jobs and appreciate the time they spend both with and away from their families.”
