With technology becoming more and more central to our lives it can sometime be difficult to pull your kids away from the TV screen.

Keeping your kids active is vital to their health and it certainly doesn’t have to be boring! Here are 5 ways to get your kids active this summer.

Bike Rides

The nights are lighter which is perfect for bike riding as it means you’ll be much more visible to other road users and have less chance of accidents happening.

Not only that, but bike riding is a great way to take in the summer scenery and gives your kids plenty of fresh air.

Always make sure your child is wearing a helmet, and visibility gear – even if it’s light – to avoid any injuries.

Treasure Hunts

If you want to get your kids into the great outdoors then you’ve got to make it fun, and what is more fun than a treasure map?

It takes a lot of work but it will definitely be worth it! Hide little pieces of ‘treasure’ in your local area and then draw up a map and clues.

Once you’re done, take your kids out and help them find their bounty!

Combine Technology and Exercise

Just because you’re trying to get your kids active doesn’t mean you can’t use technology to help, simply combine them.

If you’ve got a Wii or Xbox there are plenty of dancing games that will get your kids moving as well as laughing!

If not, dance around to the music channels with them for half an hour a day and promise a prize for the best dancer – that’ll no doubt get them involved.

Swimming

Swimming is so much fun and works every muscle in your body so there really is no better exercise.

If you’re lucky enough to live near an outdoor pool then make the most of it in the summer months. You’ll catch some rays whilst splashing around with the kids.

Get in the Garden

It doesn’t sound that active but gardening can be really tiresome work! All the bending, lifting and digging can really work up a sweat so it’s great to get the kids involved.

Give them their own little herb garden to tend or their own flowerbed that they can plant pretty flowers in.

It’ll tire them out and also give them something to work towards and have responsibility for.
