Parenting News: Majority of British Women Feel Pressured to Become a Yummy Mummy

Child birth changes a woman’s body significantly but with all these celebrity mums snapping right back into shape after the birth, it is putting immense pressure on the normal women of Britain.

This has meant that 80 per cent of British women feel pressured to dress well during their pregnancy to make them look as glamorous as possible, like the celebrities we see in the media.

Sadly, nearly three quarters of mothers-to-be said that seeing celebrity mums in the media only adds to their own insecurities.

Philips AVENT found that women will spend anywhere between £184 and £302 on clothing for themselves during pregnancy.

Worryingly, women stated they were more worried about stretch marks and their changing body shape than the cost of raising their new born.

To fuel this, many women will document celebrity mothers-to-be to see how their body changes throughout pregnancy.

Almost half of the British women said that they will proactively follow celebrity pregnancies to find out every detail, from the due date to what they will name the baby.

It’s no surprise that the Duchess of Cambridge was the celebrity mum that most Brits were interested in.

Nearly two thirds of women said they would consider giving their new born a royal name in celebration of Kate’s pregnancy and 29 per cent even said that the name Will and Kate choose will directly impact what baby name they choose for their own child.

Nikos Anastasopoulos, spokesperson for Philips AVENT, said, “Along with all the usual pressures that come with preparing for parenthood, what is evident from these findings is that women have the added strain of worrying about the way they look.

“With high profile pregnancies, like Kate Middleton’s, making the headlines every day it isn’t surprising that mums-to-be feel as though they need to live up to these expectations. Every mum should feel like a royal mum and enjoy what is a very special time.”
