How To Tell If Your Man Is Lying

How To Tell If Your Man Is Lying

Research from Panadol Period Pain has revealed what it is that men are most likely to fib about, including giving false compliments and pretending to your cooking.

The top five male fibs are as follows:

1. That they’d be ready in five minutes (27%)

2. That they’ve complimented a partner when they didn’t mean it (23%)

3. That they liked a partner’s new look i.e. haircut (when they didn’t) (23%)

4. That they’d enjoyed a meal cooked by a partner (22%)

5. That their partner hadn’t put on weight (when they had…) (21%)

We’ve enlisted the help of Body Language Expert, Anjula Mutanda, to give you a few tips on how to find out if your man is telling porkies.

She says, “Telling fibs tends to stress people out both physically and psychologically so it’s often the non-verbal cues which are a real give-away that someone might not be telling the truth.”

Here are five tell-tale signs to spot when looking out for someone telling you a little white lie, enjoy!

Tell-tale Timing

When lying, the timing of our verbal and non-verbal communication falls out of synch and behaviour clusters are often mismatched. Someone saying “I love your outfit” and then smiling afterwards, rather than at the same time as paying the compliment, is a real give away.

The Fibber’s Frozen Face

Most people are aware that body language can betray them when they’re fibbing so we often become less animated and a bit stiff when telling tales. Watch out for a frozen facial expression and limited movement when trying to find out a fibber.

The Particularly Precise Porkie

For fear of being found out, we often plan or practice telling our little white lies. This means we use over-precise language for our fibs rather than speaking naturally.

Fidgeting Hands and Feet

When trying to conceal a fib we often consciously control one part of the body, but forget about another. Watch out for conflicting signals such as smiling but fidgeting hands and feet.

Questioning a Question

Inconsistency is often the key to spotting a fib. Does someone’s story stay the same if you ask them some questions about it? Hesitation or repeating back your question might signal someone is stalling, trying to buy time whilst they recall their original fib.
