Bad Breath Is One of The Top Turn Offs

Bad smells are the number one turn off for Brits when trying to find their perfect partner. A massive 76 per cent of Brits said they would find the opposite sex less attractive if they smelt bad with 80 per cent of women saying it’s their biggest no-no.

Dress sense is thought to be important to Brits but only 1 per cent of those surveyed by Surf said that this their biggest turn off.

Nearly half of Brits said that the smell of fresh clothing is the nicest smell, showing that Brits don’t care what the opposite sex is wearing, so long as it’s clean!

It’s no wonder that Brits are so adverse to bad smells, 26 per cent of Brits have admitted that they will wait until they’ve worn clothes a shocking four times until they was them, meaning we have a lot of smelling Brits!

Some other bad smells that caused a turn off were bad breath with 38 per cent of people saying it’s the worst bad smell, and a further 37 per cent being turned off by the smell of cigarettes.

Brits were asked which smells got them feeling reminiscent and 32 per cent said they loved the smell of sun cream as it reminds them of holidays, with a further 26 per cent saying that the smell of the seaside evokes memories of great summer holidays.

Fragrance training consultant, John Ayres said, “A fragrance or scent on another person that reminds you of a past occasion can evoke incredibly strong and immediate emotions.

“You can form positive or negative opinions of a person almost instantly and if you suddenly smell a fragrance that reminds you of a good or bad time; it can have an effect on your mood too.

“By surrounding yourself with things that smell nice or that remind you of a happy occasion, you get little lifts whenever you come across them.”

Surf also asked their participants to name the best and worst smelling celebrities and, perhaps unsurprisingly, Kate Middleton topped the best smelling celebrities with 34 per cent of the vote, followed by David Beckham with 24 per cent.

Accurately, John McCririck topped the poll of the worst smelling celebrities with 31 per cent of the vote, followed by the fictional character Frank Gallagher from Shameless with 19 per cent.

Surf are trying to turn the country round and get everyone smelling fresh so they have enlisted the help of Joey Essex to create their Surf Summer D’reem liquid detergent. Find out more at www.surf.co.uk!
