Sh*t happens. If your partner cheated on you, you know that there is no pain like the soul-shattering feeling of betrayal which probably resulted in the breakdown of the relationship. Yes, some couples manage to get over infidelity but once the trust has gone, doubts will always be at the back of your mind and will resurface every time you have any doubts about your partner. Moving on and getting over your cheating ex is one of the healthiest choices you could make for yourself.

However, making the decision to break up with your cheating boyfriend is not quite the same as getting over him and even though you may feel that all you want to do is to crawl into bed and curl up into the foetal position, it won’t make the pain go away. Getting over your ex is your responsibility and there are things you can do to mend your broken heart faster. I’m not going to lie to you, this is not an overnight process and there will be days when you feel like you want to get back together with him or that all you can do is stay at home and think about what went wrong and whether it was all your fault but the trick is to stand up and take action.

When you’re at your lowest you usually turn to your closest friends for support but in this case it won’t help you get over him. If you dated your ex for a long period of time, it’s safe to say that your friends, the ones who hung out with the two of you as a couple on a regular basis, will probably still think of you two as a couple and will sometimes unwillingly bring him up. This is the time to get out there and make new friends who will only think of you as a vibrant single girl. Adopting this role will help you fake it till you make it. Explain to your old friends that you need some time and space to distance yourself from the situation and get on with meeting new people.

Looking after your body can also help ease the emotional pain so spend some time getting in touch with it. Choose an activity you like doing. It sounds basic but it really works. If you like getting pampered, book a massage or if you enjoy exercising try a new class or something you have always wanted to try. If an actual workout sounds like too much, just grab a blanket and a picnic basket filled with goodies and head to the nearest park. Lie on the grass and sky gaze. Having your back on the earth will help you feel grounded and will give you a sense of security.

This may sound like a drastic change but take this opportunity to explore a new career or look for a new position, especially if this is something you’ve been thinking about for a while. This will give you the opportunity to change your day-to-day life rather than dwell on the past. Starting a new job or looking into a career change means you won’t have any time to worry about your ex. Don’t mention your recent break-up to your new colleagues. If someone asks just say that you’re single. New job, new you!

A cheating ex is not worth dwelling on, yes your boyfriend cheated on you, yes you got hurt but it’s time to move on. Do you really want to waste your energy on him and on being upset? It’s up to you to move on and taking action will make your feel empowered and will help you to let go of any emotional pain.
