Most people think that their partner won’t miss the item and 38% blame it on the delivery driver if they realise something has gone.

72% of participants in the study said that a house move is stressful compared to a small 27% who were not affected by the experience.

57% said the reason for this was because they had to move all of their possessions, 35% didn’t like having to change their address details and 22% wondered if the move was right for them.

84% used this time to sort through their belongings and reduce the amount of things they have to take with them, but 16% said that they just take it all with them to sort at the other end or not at all.

A moving cleanse allowed 36% to de clutter their lives, compared to 24% who use it as excuse to get rid of things that they didn’t like in the last house.

More women got rid of their partner’s things than men got rid of theirs.

Despite thinking that they have got away with the operation, men are aware that some of their items will not make it to their new house.

A guilty bunch, 31%, said that they would get rid of their partner's things while they weren’t looking, whereas the most honest people in the group (69%) said that they would ask them first.

Among the things that were most popular to ditch, 57% were unfashionable clothes, 44% was sporting memorabilia and 37% were gifts from exes.

I’m sure we can all remember the episode of Friends where Monica slips the delivery man money to get rid of the big white dog- well that kind of act is not just for the actors on TV.

Men wanted mostly to get rid of things for exes (55%), 43% hated the amount of cuddly toys that their partner packed and 35% wanted to get rid of the excess amount of clothes that their partner hoarded away!
