To celebrate Chucky, The Notorious Killer Doll Day we reflect on the peculiar habits of couples when they watch a horror movie at home.

You take ages deciding what to watch- Do you opt for the one with the worried looking, hot girl on the cover? The one with the creepy looking woman with the long hair over her face? The one with the scary looking house or the one that's set in the woods? Decisions, decisions.

You resign yourselves to disappointment- Most horror movies follow the same format so you know you're in for cheap thrills, predictable jumps and unnecessary gore. But with every new horror film you watch- you hope that one day you might be genuinely spooked by this genre again.

You turn out the lights- You have to- it's the rule when you're watching something scary that you sit in the dark.

You turn on the lights when you pause it- Let's face it- you don't want to go anywhere in your house without your partner even if it's just to make a cup of tea, so you have to make sure the coast is clear first.

You snuggle up under a blanket- If the demon, ghost or killer was to jump out of the screen and attack you- you would both be safe because of the force field that is your duvet.

You predict what's going to happen- Most horror movies follow a pattern, so you both know what's going to happen before it does, which ruins the atmosphere but you feel somewhat safer when you know what's coming next.

You criticise the movements of the victim- 'Why is she going in there? You wouldn't go back in the house!', 'Why hasn't he got a weapon?', 'Called the Police?', 'Why doesn't she just get in her car and leave?' You're both so au fait with horror movies that you know what and what not to do in the event of a mass murder or ghoul in the night.

You moan about the acting- Neither of you can act for toffee but you suddenly become experts in the craft when you see a scary flick- and feel qualified to comment on their on screen performance- or lack thereof.

You wish you had watched one of the classics- Scream, Chucky, Halloween, Frankenstein or even The Shining. Because modern day horror movies aren't made like they used to be.

You try to scare each other- Even if neither of you think you were affected by the movie- you're still a little jumpy afterwards- so it's the perfect time to pop out unexpectedly from behind the door or scream when your partner's least expecting it.
