No one thinks it sustainable- Because you only see each other every week or month and you rely on texting, skyping or emails to get you through in between. People automatically pity you and your situation.

It takes a lot of effort- You have to plan in conversations and when to see each other with precision or you could miss each other because of work, other plans or time differences.

Sometimes you don't want to talk- Often you just want to come home, check in and have some quiet time. It can be hard to convey this message without it sounding rude and this is where friction can arise. Silence in person means more than silence over the phone.

If you love someone it makes it worth it- Even though you constantly ask yourself in the beginning if it is, you realise that your person was well worth the wait or in some cases- not.

You talk endlessly about how bad the situation is- You can't help but focus on the negatives of being long distance as opposed to the positives. Your mind blocks anything good that comes from being apart.

You have to have dates and times in sight- For the next time you call/ see each other or a move in date just to give you something to look forward to and keep you both going.

It makes you appreciate someone more- Because you don't wake up next to them, you can't see them every day after work- when you do finally get together, you feel like the luckiest couple in the world.
