Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall

Britain's Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall are to make a cameo in a special edition of the Beano comic.

The royal couple will feature among a host of popular characters in the latest edition of the comic strip - which will hit shelves tomorrow (12.06.13) - including the Bash Street Kids, Dennis the Menace and his pet pooch Gnasher.

In the cameo, Charles - who is known to be a keen gardener - is seen attempting to get the Bash Street Kids to eat their school dinners, but when he finds the food inedible he encourages the pupils to grow their own organic vegetables in an allotment and use their pea shooters as seed planters.

The youngsters are then seen enjoying their new healthy meal, and Charles says: "I'm glad all your efforts were worthwhile. Enjoy it!"

Camilla's cameo in the comic strip sees the duchess - who is a keen reader of books - open up a library at Bash Street School with popular duo Dennis the Menace and Gnasher, as well as Roger the Dodger.

In her attempts to convince the group to read more, she says: "Reading is fun for everyone, Menaces."

Speaking about the couple's involvement in the special edition comic, Beano editor Craig Graham said: "They were absolutely delighted. Often we're a little bit nervous because we do, by the nature of things, have to caricature people.

"But they were both absolutely delighted with their likenesses and hugely impressed to be involved with characters like Dennis the Menace and Roger the Dodger."
