Britain's Queen Elizabeth honoured the war dead in Paris, France, yesterday (05.06.14).

The monarch began her three-day state visit to France by laying a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier underneath the Arc de Triomphe.

Queen Elizabeth was joined by French president Francois Hollande in paying tribute to all those who lost their lives protecting the nation during wartime.

The monarch and Prince Philip are in France to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings today (06.06.14) and travelled to Normandy for a special ceremony.

However, while in Paris, the queen was also the guest of honour at a special party to celebrate her 88th birthday.

The bash was held at the ambassador's residence and guests - including World War II veterans and Olympic gold medal winner Bradley Wiggins - enjoyed British food and drink.

During her visit to France, Queen Elizabeth will also have a flower market named in her honour in the French capital. The market will now be known as the Marche aux Fleurs - Reine Elizabeth II.

This evening, the monarch will be guest of honour at a state banquet held at the Elysee Palace.
