When it comes to trying on new swimwear, it can often evoke the same reaction as shopping for new jeans. Tricky at best and mortifying at worst, there’s really no one size fits all approach when it comes to looking good and feeling comfortable in something that amplifies every angle of your body. It’s all about finding the holy grail of the perfect fit, cut and fabric - something that both these clothing categories regularly struggles to get right.
As such, plenty of us stick to tried and tested favourites (mainly to avoid getting stuck half-in some skinny jeans in a shop changing room and having to call a stranger for assistance). When it comes to swimwear trends, many people have a style that they go to year after year, just to avoid the agony of finding something new.
However, there’s one swimwear brand whose new SS20 collection is challenging all of the above (just in time for that winter sun getaway you’ve been eyeing up). Figleaves have long been purveyors of body positivity and have always placed quality and a good fit above all else. This season, they’ve applied all their core lingerie fit principles to trend-led swim pieces that everyone who hates shopping for swimwear will love. Why? Because for once pretty prints and vibrant colours have been adapted to look super flattering on every body type - that includes bra sized swimwear from cup sizes B-GG for anyone whose typical dress side doesn't cater to their actual shape.
We at Female First have our eye on the 50's-style polka dots - a key print for the season - available in umpteen silhouettes from high-waisted bottoms and bandeau bikini tops to supportive underwired or plunging swimsuits. All of which would look so good with cat-eye sunnies and gold jewellery. For the classic look, the little black swimsuit makes its welcome return - and yes, everyone can get in on the look. To be frank, we want them all.
