UK universities have decided to comply with Chinese internet restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The ongoing health crisis means Chinese students are set to study online, rather than in a classroom, during 2019, and the UK-based universities have now confirmed they are currently testing a new online teaching link for students in China.
The move allows students in China to keep studying UK degrees online, but students in the world's most populous country - where internet restrictions are strict - can only reach material on an "allowed" list.
Universities UK has rejected the notion it has accepted "censorship" and has also insisted it was "not aware of any instances when course content has been altered".
The move comes shortly after TikTok announced plans to quit Hong Kong.
The tech company intends to stop operations of the TikTok app in Hong Kong after China implemented a new security law.
However, Hong Kong's leader Carrie Lam has defended the recent change in legislation, saying it was needed in order to restore order in the city following anti-China protests in recent months.
She said: "Compared with the national security laws of other countries, it is a rather mild law. Its scope is not as broad as that in other countries and even China."
