As children go back to school, students head off to university and the office returns to its usual hub of activity following the summer holidays, TravelSupermarket reveals the definitive guide to the hottest trends that have shaped the 2014 season and informed our holiday conversation.

As less than half of Brits reveal that they’re ‘in the know’ about the summer’s biggest holiday trends and more men than women admitting that they have tried to ‘sound the part’ and going to any lengths to inform themselves or pretending they know more than they really do.

Holiday’s aren’t just about where you go, but what you do, what you eat, what you try and what you drink – all the key ‘lifestyle’ moments that shape conversation each holiday season. As the summer draws to a close, holidays provide valuable ‘conversation currency’ – leaving those who missed out short changed.

Whether you’ve already been away this year, or are yet to jet off, TravelSupermarket has identified the key talking points so everyone can join in the holiday conversations, outside the school gates, by the coffee machine in the office, or down the pub, saving any unnecessary embarrassment and effort in sounding the part.

In the know

Burrata, bellinis and high-waist bikinis are just some of 2014’s hot conversation topics with 26% of those surveyed saying they would like to know what has titillated travellers taste buds, 18% wanting to know this summer’s must-sip tipples, and 16% wanting to follow the holiday fashion favourites.

A further 22% would like to know the summer’s must-reads and 16% want to keep on track with the latest holiday tunes.

“As much as we’re happy to pass on our holiday knowledge, we’d much rather Brits got out there and experience this first hand. There are still some great deals to be had for last minute breaks in September. Why not fly to Ibiza, order a poolside Bellini cocktail, open your copy of ‘Before We Met’ and listen to Calvin Harris’ Summer in the background. Don’t just talk about it, do it.”

With almost a quarter (24 per cent) of Brits saying they really feel like they need a holiday, who says the sunshine has to be over? There are still some amazing last minute deals on offer for those looking to try the summer’s the most talked about holiday highlights for themselves.
