Bodnant Welsh Food

Bodnant Welsh Food

Bodnant Welsh Food is a great place to visit before or after Bodnant Garden with a mere 10 minutes’ drive between. If you are passionate about food and wine, eating and drinking then this 18th Century converted farm is the place to be if you are visiting Wales!

The delicatessen is a great place to start to pick up some unusual culinary treats, with a large selection of gluten and lactose free products it is suited to every palate, even those with intolerances. As someone who is lactose intolerant I was glad to see the range that was on offer.

The shop reminded me of those of times gone by, with fresh produce on display throughout and lots of food samples out on the counters to try before you buy. The smells were delectable and the atmosphere was very friendly. It makes you wonder why you would ever go to the supermarket again!

This is a place that has a danger of making you spend a lot of money if you visit on an empty stomach!

The staff were very helpful, I could see them all dealing with customers during my visit, tending to their every need. Gemma and Sophie were particularly helpful to me, as I bought some relish with real ale and they reassured me that it was suitable to accompany cheese, pate or on sandwiches. Givan that I had not bought anything like it before I was glad of their input. There was a huge father’s day display and I was grateful to find something edible to give my Dad on Sunday.

The Wine Shop is a good place to go for both wine enthusiasts and beginners, with £1.00 off if you buy anything in the delicatessen and an expert on hand to help you choose or discuss, you can find something to your liking! The shelves were stocked with anything from budget friendly wine to magnums of champagne!

We enjoyed an iced bun, chocolate brownie, blackcurrent fizz and coffee in The Furnace Tea Room, which boasted a large selection of pastries and cakes including the traditional Bara Brith or homemade Welsh cake- I definitely recommend that you try this! Unfortunately the weather was not in our favour, however, on a fine day you can sit inside or out in the courtyard while enjoying an ice cream made on site.

It offers lunch time light bites using butter from the dairy and bread from the bakery as well as the famous Welsh breakfast, so make sure you don’t eat before you get there.

We were privileged to see a wedding when we were leaving; the wedding car pulled up outside and the bride and her father stepped out and made their way to the marquee that had been set up, decorated in bunting. A perfect place for a quintessential Welsh wedding!

Overall, Bodnant Welsh Food is a welcome day out. With a playground for young children around the back, overlooking the beautiful landscape of Conwy Valley, children will find this just as enjoyable as adults, and you are certain to leave with full belies and bags bursting full of edibles like no other!

We didn’t take advantage of all of the attractions available, for there is a cookery school, the Hayloft Restaurant, with a seasonally designed menu and accommodation too, so many activities to extend your day into the evening or arrange a return visit.
