The Calgary stampede is popular with international visitors too

The 10 day event, which started on 6th July, draws people from all over the world who gather there to experience the country's finest rodeo, chuck wagon racing and a parade. However, the event also features some of the world’s finest lasso experts.

One of whom is Kateri Cowley, a true cowgirl who grew up on a ranch in the heart of cowboy territory, Alberta, Canada.

The 26-year-old is a former Stampede Princess, and has even had the pleasure of teaching actor and adventurer Charley Boorman how to use a whip while he was in Canada filming his recent Extreme Frontier programme.

While Charley may not have been so hot in the saddle (he managed to leave himself covered in welts) Kateri is hoping Brits will embrace the sport of lassoing, and she has been visiting the UK to teach us how to be true cowboys and cowgirls.

In this video, filmed in London, not only does she give a lassoing tutorial, but she manages to rope herself a cowboy – whilst blindfolded!
