Fancy a spooky trip abroad?

Prague

Prague is said to be the most haunted city in all of Europe. Perhaps it is given this title as it is home to the ‘Headless Templar Knight’ who is often spotted galloping his horse down the cobbled streets of Prague, holding his head under his arm! To rid the city of his haunting, a passer by must take the knights sword and stab him through the heart – as the myth goes! If you dare, visit Prague on the Road to Prague trip.

Transylvania

It doesn’t get much spookier than visiting the home of Dracula himself at the popular tourist attraction, Transylvania castle. Transylvania is just a short drive outside of Bucharest, another Romanian city with an eery past, including the ghost of a woman who haunts the Bucharest Theatre School by begging passes by for help. Visit both these haunted cities on the Eastern Escapes tour.

Rome

Rome is home to some of the most iconic sights in Europe including the Colosseum, Vatican and the Trevi Fountain, but for those looking to explore a different kind of history, try the Crypt tour at Santa Maria della Concezione, which houses the remains of friars from the 1600s. Visit Santa Maria della Concezione on the March on Rome trip

Amsterdam

Another European city with a gruesome history is Amsterdam. Some of the spookiest spectacles the city has to offer is the Torture Museum, chronicling the “Punishments and Verdicts in the Middle Ages.” Another terrifying area of Amsterdam is a street which oozes horror from it’s name, Bloedstraat (Blood Street). Legend has it that ghosts of the Franciscan monastery, located here in the 16th century, can be seen haunting the street at night. Witness the ghosts for yourself on the Winter Wonder tour.

Oslo

Oslo is home to one of the most haunted places in Norway. Akershus Fortress is a medieval castle that served as a prison in the late 18th century and was also occupied by Nazis during the Second World War, who used the castle to carry out many executions - making a perfect contender for spookiest past! Amongst the haunting residents of the fortress is a woman named Mantelgeisten, who can often be seen (with no facial features!) roaming around the castle, trying to get back to her own chamber. Travellers can go ghost hunting on the Scandi Express trip which goes through Oslo.
