Radisson Blu Edwardian Manchester

The Opus One Bar and Restaurant situated in the The Raddison Blu Edwardian Hotel Manchester is a trendy place to eat where the modern meets the traditional. Its reputation precedes it as it has been popular since it was first opened because of its unique contemporary twist on traditional locally sourced food.

The restaurant is dramatic- with large red chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, casting a warm glow over the monochrome seating and large chess pieces that decorate the pillars between the tables. The walls are decked with red velvet and the furniture covered in black crocodile skin hide to complete the edgy look. When entering the bar it feels like you have walked right into a stylish Manhattan restaurant.

We were greeted on arrival and shown to a table in the conservatory area and given a glass of champagne, while we perused over the menu. The Opus Experience for Valentine’s Day boasted 3-5 choices per course with a tempting range of dishes to delight couples while dining together.

We ordered for our first course:

Spring Pea Veloute, Bacon Powder, Pea Shoots and Ham Hock & Baby leek, Apple & Vanilla Chutney, Mustard Dressing

Second course:

Pressing of Confit Duck & Foie Gras, Celeriac and apple remoulade, Watercress salad and Vegetable Spring Roll, Sweet Dressing, Mango & Chilli Dressing

Third course:

Cheshire Lamb Rump, Braised Onions, Wild Garlic, Spring Pea  and 8oz Fillet Steak, Wild Mushrooms, Turnip, Cep Puree, Red Wine Jus.

For dessert we were curious about what the Taste of Manchester had to offer and I wholeheartedly recommend this to complete your meal. A selection of an Eccles cake, Vimto ice cream, pomegranate jelly, custard tart and smoothie- the different textures get your taste buds dancing as you experience the range of flavours!

All of the food was beautifully presented in a very unique and minimalist display. The meat was tender and the accompaniments were seasoned just enough and complimented each other perfectly. Each dish was a recognisable classic, with a new twist and flair expertly applied to revolutionise a beloved signature meal. We were served all night by Adam, who was attentive to our every need and ensured that each course was to our liking. I was astounded by the poise of the staff, who were extremely efficient at detecting when we were ready for a another drink or our next course.

We were offered coffee and The Halle Berry cocktail at the end of the meal, however as we were driving requested a non-alcoholic cocktail instead- a Blackberry, and a Raspberry Lemonade; both were the perfect palate cleansers to complete our dining experience.

I would urge anyone staying in the area to dine in the Opus One Bar and Restaurant. Judging by the amount of people clustered around the bar as we arrived, it is very popular so make sure you do so in advance. The mood lighting is the perfect setting for a romantic meal with your loved one and the food and service is quite simply exceptional!

Thanks to all the staff who were involved in making our dining experience so enjoyable!
