The results showed that Brits find it increasingly hard to switch off from social media sites when on holiday, with nearly half of us packing a laptop or a tablet so we can log into Facebook and Twitter. One in five 18 – 24 year olds admitted that they wouldn’t know what to do on holiday if they left their laptop at home.

Nearly half of holidaymakers admitted to taking photos to show off on Facebook and Twitter to those stuck at home, with girls being the worst offenders – almost three times as many girls as guys claim that it’s more important to share photos on Facebook than sunbathe on the beach.

Brits want to show off their holiday snaps on Facebook and Twitter so everyone at home is left suitably envious. New technology on the market, such as cameras with built-in wireless, means it's easier

It’s not just social media we can’t live without on holiday. Music also plays an important part when it comes to Brits abroad, with one in five of us admitting our holiday wouldn’t be complete without our iPod to plug into. Infact holidaymakers are so reliant on music when relaxing on the beach that a third of us would rather lose a suitcase full of clothes than our iPod.

Nearly 20 per cent admitted to being wired up to their MP3 player for nearly five hours a day, revealing they prefer listening to music to having a conversation with their holiday companions.

Natalie Hilborne, Marketing Manager for Dixons Travel, said: “Technology plays an important role for Brits when it comes to holidaying, especially when they use it to update their social media channels.

"Brits want to show off their holiday snaps on Facebook and Twitter so everyone at home is left suitably envious. New technology on the market, such as cameras with built-in wireless, means it’s easier than ever before to do this. We are also addicted to on-the-go entertainment; music players, tablets and headphones are all big sellers in our stores right now," she added.
