Do you steal from hotels abroad?

A towel, some toiletries and that comfy bath robe, it seems that some complimentary hotel products are just too good to resist as more than two thirds of British holidaymakers admit to stealing such things, as well as other unusual items, from hotels abroad.

More than two thirds of the 1,329 British people polled by www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk confessed to stealing from hotels while on holiday abroad.

The online discount website found that more than a quarter of respondents steal from hotels only because they believed they had paid for the privilege, whilst a fifth take things to bring home as a souvenir.

A further 15 per cent declared stealing from hotels because they needed something similar to the item they stole whilst a third thought the hotel wouldn’t notice anyway.

Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said: “It’s quite surprising to see the amount people can steal from hotels. I can’t quite believe people steal curtains or even kettles from their rooms.”

The respondents that admitted stealing from hotels while on holiday specified the items they were taking from their hotel room; 68 per cent opted to bring home towels/linen; 57 per cent went for batteries and light bulbs, while 51 per cent chose to nab food and drink and 45 per cent went for the cutlery.

Other stolen items include books, artwork, the Bible and curtains. (Full list below).

Luckily, the poll revealed that the majority – 79 per cent – managed to get away with the petty theft!

Mark added: “I guess some people just manage to get away with it. But if you don’t feel completely happy with your room or have a tight budget and feel like you want to save a few pennies, we have some great deals on MyVoucherCodes for holiday packages and hotels whether you want to stay in the UK or go on holiday abroad.”
