Tired of mundane Mother's Day gifts? Well, if money was no object then a holiday of a lifetime would be the Mother’s Day gift that Brits would treat their mum to, says new research from online travel agent On the Beach.

The results of the poll reveal more than half of sons and daughters across Britain would choose to send their mum on a dream holiday if they were made of money.

And that’s not all; if cash was readily available then 17 per cent would pay off their mum’s mortgage, with a new car voted the third gift of choice, with nine per cent of the vote.

Alistair Daly, Chief Marketing Officer at On the Beach, said: “For the majority of us, our mother is the most important person in our lives and although we would like to give our mums any one of those expensive gifts, after years of working hard to give us the best start in life, most of us would love to treat our mum to a holiday of a lifetime.”

Whisking mums off to faraway shores was chosen ahead of all material gifts and grand gestures including refurbishing the house and an expensive Tiffany diamond necklace, both receiving six per cent of the vote.

Other lavish gifts not deemed good enough for mum included landscaping the garden and a London shopping spree.

The dream Mother’s Day gifts included:

1. Holiday of a lifetime

2. Pay off the mortgage

3. New car

4. Refurbish the house

5. Diamond necklace

6. Landscape the garden

7. London shopping spree
