Urban Meadow Restaurant
The Urban Meadow Restaurant was located on the ground floor of the Double Tree by Hilton. It was light and airy, decorated in greens, browns and light woods which complimented the view of the park across the road. The ceilings were decked with upside down potted plants and large leaf shaped silver sculptures, which gave this restaurant a quirky, modern edge.
We were seated by the window by Diego, which in good weather could be opened up to expand out onto the terrace.
We were given a jug of water and wine while we waited for our food. The starters; Duck confit with apricots, chutney and toast were beautifully presented and the sweetness of the chutney complimented the duck perfectly.
For the main course we had chicken and bacon salad with a mustard dressing and croutons. Again, I could not fault the presentation and the drizzle had to be the best mustard dressing I have ever tasted!
The steak was cooked just as my partner asked for it- medium, with an accompaniment of fries and homemade onion rings delivered in a camper's cup for that added feeling of being outdoors.
For dessert, my partner had pear and gooseberry crumble with vanilla custard and I had the cheeseboard. I requested this without any crackers and Diego confirmed my unusual request and made sure that I was presented exactly with what I had asked for.
Overall, the restaurant was clean, contemporary and was perfect for couples, families or even meetings as there was an area that was separated from the rest of the tables that could have been used for an occasion or for business needs.
The service from Diego was efficient and the food was well portioned and presented. It lives up to its name 'urban meadow', as the decor and rustic food are in keeping with the stylish theme.
