Ahead of the third season of Arrow later this year, we've decided to take a look at the show's lead actor Stephen Amell and here have 10 juicy facts about the hunk you may not have known before.

1) He is actually a skilled archer. Speaking to Collider, he says he'd like to shoot the show [Arrow] for a while and then go into competitions to find out just how good he can get.

2) Very much the method actor, he taught spinning classes to support himself before landing his first professional acting job on Queer As Folk in 2004 in a role very close to home. Speaking to BULLETT Stephen said that on Twitter and Facebook he'll get messages from people who took his classes.

3) Stephen enjoys vocabulary and may still not be over the beating he got in Scrabble from Candice Accola (The Vampire Diaries). "Having a big vocabulary and being good at Scrabble are not the same thing" he said, speaking to After Elton. "Candice just destroyed me in Scrabble, and I maybe haven't gotten over it."

4) His first day on Hung was spent filming a racy sex scene where he played a hooker. "I knew going in that it'd call for it." he noted.

5) He's won one award to date - a Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Guest Role Dramatic Series, for his work in ReGenesis. He was most recently nominated for a Young Hollywood Award - Super Superhero - but lost out to Kellan Lutz's take on Hercules.

6) On the small screen isn't the only place he's lent his voice to the Green Arrow role, as he was also recorded for the video game Injustice: Gods Among Us.

7) Amell will be making appearances as Oliver Queen and The Arrow in new spin-off series The Flash.

8) His guest-roles have included Degrassi: The Next Generation, Missing, Tilt, Flashpoint, CSI: Miami, NCIS: Los Angeles and more, so if you recognise his face but you're not sure where from, it's most likely one of those!

9) Stephen can do a lot of his own stunts and it was his ability to do the now-dubbed 'salmon ladder' scene from the pilot episode that saw its inclusion into the show.

10) Not to end things on a low, but he is happily married to actress Cassandra Jean, and the pair have a daughter - Mavi.

Arrow seasons 1-2 are available now on Amazon Instant Video. Season three is expected to arrive on Sky1 this October, following its October 8 premiere in America.
