Twilight's Perpetually Shirtless Wolfpack

Twilight's Perpetually Shirtless Wolfpack

Twilight comes to an end this weekend, with the final part in the series hitting movie screens in the shape of Breaking Dawn Part 2. Or is it?

While it’s the last time we’ll see Bella or Edward for a bit, it might not be the end of the franchise, as rumours have been bubbling of a spin-off TV show coming in the not too distant future.

With the main ‘saga’ now over, where would one be able to slot in a spin-off show?  The answers are incredibly simple. Either centre the new show around the wolf pack, or around one of the new Cullen covens that the latest film brings to light.

Neither have really been explored in the films, leaving a fairly blank slate in the universe for the writers to have a crack at, whilst still holding enough recognition to attract in fans without too much effort.

Where the difficulty starts though is that the level of competition on TV has become far higher than that at the box office. All of those following in Twilight’s success have done so on TV, with both True Blood and The Vampire Diaries both not only there to challenge any Twilight television show, but to rip it apart.

With True Blood rediscovering it’s form after a real slip up last year and The Vampire Diaries just continuing to get stronger, any Twilight spin-off faces opposition that’s not just going to give up its territory or its audience.

That these two other franchises are actually far more willing to experiment and be inventive makes the task even harder for any prospective show, as the Twilight films are by far the least interesting vampire drama out there, with both Vampire Diaries and True Blood being bloodier, sexier and far more interesting.

While the temptation is clearly there for the studio, with a boat load of fans wanting always clamouring for more Twilight, they mustn’t give in and try and bring the sparkly vampires and cuddly werewolves to the small screen, as they’ll simply get eaten alive.
