Holby City

30th June 2009

BBC ONE 08:00pm - 09:00pm

Connie trawling through the job section of “Doctors Now” – she doesn’t see want she expected and throws it aside. She was expecting the advert for the DOS position to go out today. Jayne’s preoccupied but she says she will she’ll chase it up later. Besides, today Connie has a department of health delegation to show around which is more pressing.

Connie senses that Jayne is not herself and as Jayne struggles to maintain her composure she explains that she thinks that John is having an affair. Connie’s stomach lurches and she asks why Jayne thinks this is the case. Jayne has a feeling as he’s been working late more and more, and he just seems to be distant. Connie reassures Jayne that it will be nothing, but is desperate to tell John about Jayne’s suspicions.

Tara returns to Holby to see Elliot. He is flustered as he didn’t expect to see her again. Tara explains that she just came to give him his 50th birthday present as she meant to give it to him at the party but forgot. Tara suggests they should go for a coffee to catch up properly but he is cagey.  He has a lot to do today. Tara understands but she tells him that she’s catching a train at 4pm - if he changes his mind, he should call her. With that, she leaves. Elliot is relieved.

Connie calls John and he agrees to meet with her. Connie’s feelings for John haven’t disappeared. John is thrilled to hear from her as he didn’t think she’d ever call again - but Connie is measured and simply tells John that she’d like to see him. They agree a place and time.

Michael returns to Holby after a much needed break but is still not in the best mood. He calls Annalese who is planning to take the children to the South of France for the whole of the summer. Michael tries to change her mind but loses the battle. Michael asks Donna to do him a favour and buy his children a going away present for the summer.

Connie sees the Director of Surgery position has gone live and submits her application. It’s now time for her to meet John. She’s walking off the ward when her pager goes – it’s the transplant co-ordinator – they have a heart, and it’s on its way.  She postpones John and prepares for the transplant. She can’t get hold of him, so leaves a message.

With Donna offsite, Michael sets to work on the ward. Penny enters and they haven’t worked together before. Initially Michael keeps it strictly professional, but his vanity gets the better of him and they flirt. He asks her to lunch.

Faye and Joseph meet with the adoption agency who are missing papers from Lucas, Archie’s father, that would allow Joseph to become Archie’s legal father. Faye suggests that they might have got lost in the post, but really she is hiding something from Joseph.

Tara continues to leave voice mails on Elliot’s phone.  She is very keen to see him. Elliot looks at the present of a pen and chuckles to himself. He agrees to meet Tara but whenever she brings up incidents from the past Elliot tries to change the subject. He clearly doesn’t wish to talk about it. When Tara continues Elliot leaves to attend to a patient.

Michael is having lunch with Penny as Donna arrives back from buying toys for the children. She sees the two of them flirting and, unimpressed, makes sure that Penny knows about his children. Michael heads to take the toys to his children where he sees one of them being wheeled into an ambulance and Ric keeping Annalese company in his absence. What was Ric doing there?

Connie finishes in theatre, it has been a success but she was preoccupied with other thoughts. She heads off to meet John but he isn’t there. She heads to the hotel.

John opens the door and Connie’s heart skips a beat as she stares at the man she loved so much but who she couldn’t be with. John’s cagey. Connie’s about to explain but is in the corridor and motions to come in. John looks awkward and she realises in that instant that John is not alone, and the affair Jayne suspects him of having is not with her – it’s with someone else…
