There are so many fantastic television shows available right now, but sometimes those working on them make moves in regards to the characters involved that have us questioning exactly what they were thinking when they put their plans into action. Looking back over some of our favourite series, here are 5 TV Characters That Died Too Soon.

5. Lexa, The 100

Lexa was one of the most influential homosexual characters of our time, so what did those behind The 100 decide to do straight after she finally slept with her same-sex partner Clarke? Kill her off and take her out of the show altogether. Having united all of the clans who once hated one another, she was an icon, and strong, female, LGBT+ community member lead character.

4. Poussey Washington, Orange is the New Black

Another LGBT icon of our times was Poussey Washington, a woman who was willing to give her all when it came to her relationships. Her time on OITNB came to a close however when a prison riot ended in her being crushed by one of the untrained police officers who attempted to calm the situation by laying on her back. It was tough viewing and something we wish never happened.

3. Bea Smith, Wentworth Prison

There seems to be a running theme here… Bea Smith is a bisexual character who slept with her girlfriend for the first time in the fourth season of Wentworth Prison, only to be murdered on the prison grounds by her former Governor, Joan Ferguson in a scene that had viewers sobbing across the globe. With her death all but confirmed, we’re going to miss the incredible Danielle Cormack from our screens when Wentworth makes its return this year.

2. Andrea, The Walking Dead

Just as Andrea was becoming one of the most likeable characters in The Walking Dead, with her character development at an all-time high, she succumbed to her wounds when a walker made a meal out of her. It was sad to see her go when she spent an entire season fawning over but eventually discovering that the Governor was up to no good, and while her death DID serve to push the story along, we would have preferred it to be avoided.

1. Barb, Stranger Things

Stranger Things was almost a perfect show. Their first and only mistake however came when they sent Barb to the Upside Down as fodder for the Demogorgon. Seeing her character snatched and disposed of so quickly was so upsetting that it actually led to petitions garnering thousands of signatures. Unfortunately, it’s been confirmed that she IS gone for good.
