With August arriving, a plethora of shows are returning or coming to the small screen and we've taken a look at five you should definitely be watching.

From the worlds of reality TV competitions to horror, drama and more, these are the series you have to turn on in the coming weeks.

The X Factor - Season 12 - ITV

Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini return to the judging panel alongside newcomers Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora, in another series of the show which has turned the likes of Leona Lewis and One Direction into global stars. Could this year bring another big talent to the world?

The Great British Bake Off - Season 6 - BBC One

Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood judge the baking competitors in the sixth series of the reality competition series. Who'll have a soggy bottom this year and who will rise to the top? Will a man or a woman take home the title of Star Baker in the first week, and just who will be sent packing?

Suits - Season 5 - Dave

The clever lawyers return looking better than ever to take on another season of action and drama, with the law firm shaken to its core when we start things off. Will they be able to recover and get things back on-track once more?

The Strain - Season 2 - Watch

Created by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan whilst being based on the book trilogy of the same name, The Strain returns for an all-new batch of 13 episodes - will the vampiric virus become any clearer to our cast of characters this time round?

The Pinkertons - Season 1 - Drama

Angus MacFadyen stars in this new series as the founder of an American private security and detective agency, which at one point in its life was the largest such organisation in the world, whilst still being in existence today. Crime cases of the Pinkerton detective agency must be resolved by Angus as Allan Pinkerton, alongside Martha MacIsaac as Kate Warne and Jacob Balir as William Pinkerton.
