With such chaos that preceded this episode, things seem to have slowed down quite a bit now that King Joffrey has met his end.

The Lannister family are grieving in their own peculiar ways - all except Tyrion that is, who's in chains and scheduled to go on trial for the murder of his nephew.

Cersei's immovable from the side of her son, and Joffrey's brother Tommen is given a lesson by Tywin on how to make a good King. It's in this moment that you could even begin to suspect the house's patriarch for Joff's murder - he's working his way into Tommen's brain at the instant he's able to and will secure the one thing he loves most; power.

Realising that he needs the Dornish on side, he also extends an olive branch to Prince Oberyn, requesting he stand as a judge in Tyrion's trial and take a seat in the revamped small council.

The Lannister outcast is visited by his squire Podrick in the cells, and thanks him for everything he has done, but sends him away in the hopes he will keep his head after Podrick tells him how he would be paid if he testified against Tyrion - something that he refused from a man with a face he did not recognise. Tyrion simply requests the presence and help of his brother Jaime, and says his goodbyes in a scene that's far more emotional than you'd first expect.

Elsewhere, the members of Castle Black come to the conclusion that they are far from safe and The Wall is likely to be taken by the Wildlings if they choose to attack, and so Jon came up with a bold plan which should give them some time to think things through.

Arya and The Hound's road trip continued as they make their way to The Eyrie, and as the young Stark girl slowly begins to warm to her companion, his actions mean that all begins to unravel once more.

Sansa's future looks to be a dark one, but better than anything she ever faced during her time in King's Landing. I do wonder if she'd have been better sticking around just a while longer so the Tyrells could send her off to Highgarden - they did seem awfully fond of her - but she's now been politely kidnapped by Littlefinger who tells her she'll be safe, just after reminding her there are liars everywhere.

We revisit Daenerys as she makes her trip to Meereen - the largest of the slave quarters - and she is belitted by the people who greet her, as their champion demands to be met by one of her own.

The result is a fantastic one in a tense and exciting scene with a brilliant end. Though she may seem to be simply meandering around she is building an army of numbers, and it's already impressive before the likely additions we'll see to it. The Targaryen story may be a slow burner, but it's packed out necessarily and to bring to light the huge and expansive Game of Thrones universe.

Game of Thrones continues next Monday, 9pm on Sky Atlantic and Sky Atlantic HD.
