Tobey is on the verge of signing up for a fourth Spider-man film

Director Sam Raimi and actor Tobey Maguire are on the verge of signing on for a further two sequels of the Spider-Man franchise.According to the Hollywood Reporter, bosses at Sony's Columbia Pictures - the movie studio behind the web-slinging flicks - are close to sealing a deal with the pair to make the fourth and fifth installments about the superhero, based on the Marvel comic books. The publication further claims Columbia executives will make Raimi shoot the films back-to-back in a bid to save on costs.Producers Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad are already set to produce the feature films, and Ziskin is hoping for a May 2011 release for Spider-Man 4.Zodiac screenwriter Jamie Vanderbilt has also been brought onboard to pen the script.Maguire has previously vowed only to return as Peter Parker and his alter ego Spider-Man if Raimi was at the helm. And Columbia heads insist there is no other actor suited to the role.Sony spokesman Steve Elzer says, "The studio never considered any other actor. Tobey was our only choice and the only person we've discussed the role with."
