The penultimate episode of 'The Great British Bake Off' aired last night, where the all-female four bakers competed in the French-themed week.

Some of the most complicated challenges sat between the four women and their place in next week's final, including the creation of a Charlotte Royale dessert that drew tears from youngest contender Ruby when she realised she had forgotten to line her bowl.

Hosts Sue and Mel were as supportive as ever, offering slaps to those who needed them and lovingly calling the Charlotte Royale's 'brains'.

The show stopper came in the shape of an Opera Cake, which had to have several well-defined levels and even edges, including flavours that were left entirely as the choice of the baker behind them.

In the end, it was Beca who was sent packing after a disappointing few dishes that didn't leave judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry too impressed.

Kimberley took home the title of 'star baker' this week following her brilliant technical, and it's difficult to see how anyone could beat her next week. However, you can never count anyone out in the 'Bake Off'.

'The Great British Bake Off' finale airs Tuesday October 22 on BBC Two from 8pm.
