Meet Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis). He's a man who's bored and unhappy with his life and yes, he is THE Lucifer; Lord of Hell. Based on the character from DC Entertainment's Vertigo comic, viewers see Lucifer abandon his throne and retire to the City of Angels - Los Angeles - where he's fallen for the new world he's embedded himself within and enjoys living in ignorant bliss. When a popstar is murdered in front of his eyes however, he feels something stir within himself - something he hasn't felt in around 10 billion years.

The murder acts as the catalyst for all of the drama and chaos that is to come thereafter. LAPD homicide detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) is brought into Lucifer's world after starting her investigations into the murder, and when she meets the man himself she can't help but be both repulsed yet fascinated by him. Unfortunately for her, his powers prove to be too helpful and so the pair work together to solve the popstar's murder, whilst forming a very close bond.

The pair's relationship means that Lucifer finds himself dealing with something he didn't think was possible - there may still be hope for regular, every day people. And who knows? The Devil may even have his own chance for redemption…

The cop procedural format is one that is overused immensely on the small screen, and it doesn't manage to evade the audience or show-makers here, despite the unique idea of Lucifer being exactly the help the LA Police Department need in bringing criminals to justice.

Though much of what we see has been done before in some form or another, Lucifer does in a way manage to reinvent the genre, adding intrigue and surprise to its storytelling and planting twists around many corners.

A couple of episodes here or there may feel like filler, but Lucifer is yet another show to add to those of the modern day you'll want to watch if you enjoy fantasy, action and compelling drama…

The DVD's Special Features…

There is an array of special features that come with the first season of Lucifer on DVD. There's the usual suspects on there, with featurettes delving more deeply into the show and the characters you might want to find out a little bit more about. There's also the 2015 Lucifer Comic-Con panel which mega-fans will really enjoy, whilst those who think a little something was missing from the original season should find solace in the unaired scenes.

My personal favourite has to be the gag reel, however. There's nothing better than watching the actors you've watched for some time on the show, in character but quickly breaking down into laughter because of fluffed lines or problems on set.
