DC may not have the best track record when it comes to movies, with less-than-perfect films like Justice League (2017) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2021); however, their TV shows nearly always seem to hit their mark with Arrow, The Flash and Gotham being widely popular with fans.

This year (2021) DC has appeared to step it up a notch; Zack Snyder’s Justice League was a wild success, and The Suicide Squad is set to hit cinemas later this year which has fans more than excited.

DC’s comic books are some of the best, even if we don’t see them in film or tv series format. However, a comic by the name of Sweet Tooth will be coming to Netflix at the start of June 2021, and it may be unlike anything the company has given us before.

From the executive production team of Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan, comes a story about a boy named Gus (Christian Convery), who is a hybrid. Gus a mixture of both a deer and a human, and the world he lives in seems to be concerned and, most of all, afraid of people like him.

Through eight episodes, the series seems to follow Gus on a journey of survival. We see other baby hybrids just like Gus, and we may begin to wonder what the future holds for them; will it be full of hope, or will they be hidden away by humanity?

The trailer for the show also mentions a virus; perhaps this is what caused the combination of humans and animals. We also see a couple of other hybrids who have differing animalistic features to our main character.

One scene shows a suburban neighbourhood in tatters; police cars, army trucks, flames and broken fire hydrants all scream danger. This could be due to Gus and his odd appearance, or other hybrids in the area that may be being hunted.

This show seems so interesting; coming from Team Downey (the producers), and based on a DC comic, it may show an apocalyptic world like we’ve never seen before.

With eight whole episodes to explore Gus’s story, Netflix will no doubt bring us tears, joy and perhaps even fear as we follow the fragile Gus as he simply tries to stay alive.

The trailer is a perfect reveal for the series, showing some of the hybrids in full, inferring that Gus will come face-to-face with his own fears, showing his character off just enough to evoke intrigue form audiences; it’s a brilliant trailer that seems to throw us every which way, and we can’t wait to watch it.

Sweet Tooth will be available on Netflix from June 4th!

New films are coming out rather frequently to our delight, and David Oyelowo’s directorial debut is set to drop next month.

Many people seem confused, however, as the movie seems to be a horror and a light-hearted adventure; but can it be both?
