FOX are continuing to build hype surrounding the return of The X-Files, releasing this brand new short teaser trailer to really whet the appetites of fans around the world.

Shorter than the last clip we were granted, it again tells us absolutely nothing about the story we should expect, almost entirely reusing the same footage we've already seen, but there's one big difference here - Mulder and Scully converse.

At this point it's getting a little grating to wake up to another trailer and be disappointed by the lack of action or excitement or build up to what story we should expect to see in January. Recycling the same footage is a little cheap and at some point, if it continues, the fans are going to be bored of seeing the same thing over and over again.

Will the payoff be worth it when the six new episodes come around? We're certainly hoping so - all will be forgiven if the writers deliver on making a stellar season, and with both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles, they're already off to a great start.

The pair will be joined by originals Dean Haglund, Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis as The Lone Gunman, Skinner and the Cigarette Smoking Man respectively.

New faces joining the show include Annet Mehendru, Kamil Nanjiani and Joel McHale, the latter of which will play a conservative news anchor who becomes an unlikely ally for Mulder.

It was more recently revealed that both Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose have also signed onto the series, in the roles of new agents. Could the pair carry on with the series once this revival is done with? It's certainly a possibility if Duchovny and Anderson are certain on wanting out after the six episode special.

The X-Files returns to FOX in the US on January 24, 2016.
