Social networking sites could prove successful in preventing the axe of Sunday morning TV show, Something For The Weekend.

Resident chef on the programme, Simon Rimmer, took to Twitter to break the news that the show would be finishing in March, prompting its thousands of viewers to try and reverse the decision.

Hosted by Tim Lovejoy and Louise Redknapp, Something For The Weekend airs on BBC2 every Sunday, at 10am. It is an entertaining mix of cooking, celebrity interviews and gadget reviews. Simon, who is a successful chef with a chain of his own restaurants and published cook books, provides viewers with inspiration for their Sunday lunch, demonstrating how quickly fabulous food can be put together.

But now it is being axed, 6 years after it first hit our screens in 2006, allegedly due to budget cuts and the rescheduling of BBC daytime shows.

There have been rumours of ITV taking over the show from the BBC, but there have been no decisions announced. Meanwhile, Facebook group 'SAVE Something For The Weekend from The Axe' is gathering pace, as it currently has over 23,800 'likes', with fans of the show posting their opinions on the news.

Celebrity fans of the show, including Professor Brian Cox and Lisa Faulkner, have also voiced their disappointment. The first show of 2012, which aired last Sunday, managed an overnight audience of one million, proving more popular than Country Tracks, which was shown on BBC One at the same time.

Here's hoping people power will prevail once more, and save a much loved weekend TV show.
