It had been claimed the 28-year-old star was planning to step down from playing Adam Barton in order to launch a presenting career, but he finds the rumours funny.

He posted on Twitter: "Don't believe everything you read people (sic)"

He then followed it up with another post, which was accompanied by the crying with laughter emoji and said: "In other news who wants to be a guest on my new show (sic)"

Adam - whose brother Ryan Thomas was formerly a star on rival soap 'Coronation Street' - joined the Dales in 2009, and has had several dramatic storylines since.

Most notably, his character was seen suffering a breakdown and committing arson after John Barton, the man he believed to be his father, died.

His character was also involved in a plot which had him mistakenly believe he had fathered Luca, the son of Vanessa Woodfield (played by Michelle Hardwick), after Rakesh Kotecha (Pasha Bocarie) - who is the father of Luca's biological father Kirin (Adam Fielding) - doctored the DNA test results.

Earlier this year, Adam's half sister Holly (Sophie Powles) and his biological father James (Bill Ward) were both killed off within a month of each other.

Last year, Adam took part in tough reality show 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' and placed third behind Scarlett Moffatt and Joel Dommett.

He said after leaving the jungle: "I'm just happy I got this far. I didn't expect to get to the final so this is just unbelievable ... What an experience. I wouldn't change any of it for the world. It was just laughter after laughter. The two left in there [Scarlett and Joel] deserve it so much.

"It's been a lot tougher than expected; I never thought it would be that tough. You have your up days and your down days. At the beginning, I found it really tough but as the days went on, it became easier. I can't believe I got to the final three. It's unbelievable. I was in there from the start and I'm in there 'til the end."
