The 44-year-old comedian put on three stone during the first two coronavirus lockdowns, but the TV presenter knew he had to change his diet when he couldn't get a pair of jeans over his stomach.

He told The Daily Mirror newspaper: “I did put on a lot of lockdown weight. You are going to see there is a gap where people will think, ‘What the hell has he eaten because he has ballooned?’ I have been eating any old s***.

"I think I have put on about three stone. You see skinny people on Instagram and they only have a slice of banana bread but I was eating the whole lot.

"For my birthday, I went to put on my jeans and I said to my husband, ‘Paul, you have put your jeans on my shelf.’ But he hadn’t. I looked at them and realised they were a 36-inch waist. I couldn’t get them around my stomach."

Now, Alan is determined to use the third lockdown to lose weight after he made a pledge to Judge Rinder - whose real name is Robert Rinder - to shed the pounds by November.

He explained: “I rang Rob up last year and said, ‘I am fat.’ He said, ‘I am fat’. So we sent each other pictures and both agreed we were fat. We decided whoever had lost the least amount of weight by November 2nd would pay for dinner. I saw a picture of him and he is back to being skinny and so if there was anything good to come out of the lockdown, it was I couldn’t see him.”

What's more, the 'Epic Gameshow' host joked he could be eligible to have the coronavirus vaccine early after gaining so much weight.

He quipped: "Well the amount of weight I have put on, I am in one of those groups that have it earlier.”
