The cobbles star is thrilled she gets to explore her character's rollercoaster love life after she has been dumped twice since arriving in Weatherfield in 2018 but she's still looking forward to seeing Emma find lasting love.

She told Inside Soap magazine: "Having the opportunity to play those kind of failing relationships is amazing. That's where the fun is. But it would be nice to see what she's like in a long-term relationship, as I haven't had the chance to follow that through yet."

Emma has her sights set on trainee doctor Curtis Delamere (Sam Retford) but Alexandra thinks Emma is sometimes too quick to jump into a romance without getting to know her partner.

She explained: "Bless her, she's given it a good go, hasn't she? She just goes running in way too quickly, gets way too obsessed, and then, unfortunately, it turns out that it isn't her Prince Charming.

"With Curtis, as soon as she sees an attractive young man, she already has her blinkers on. She's considering all the possibilities that could happen. She's always thinking this is the one."

However, Alexandra hopes that Curtis could be the one for Emma as she needs someone to look after her.

She added: "It's time for Emma to finally meet someone who's right for her. Curtis is charming and intelligent - Emma can see his good qualities and is really impressed. He's lovely, romantic, and helpful; that's what Emma needs right now. She needs someone who is going to look after her for a change."

Meanwhile, the soap star has found love off-screen after her partner Joe Parker popped the question and she admitted she's still feeling "the buzz" of excitement, which was made stronger because she wasn't expecting him to ask her to be his wife while they were enjoying a date night at home.

She gushed: "We're so excited! I don't think the buzz has worn off yet...

"It was a complete surprise. I was at the kitchen sink like, 'Is this happening?' "
