The BBC business show is returning in 2022 with filming set to get underway towards the end of this year, but the hopeful entrepreneurs won't be travelling outside the UK for any tasks due to COVID-19 restrictions.

A source told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre TV column: "This is another hurdle the producers have had to jump as COVID-related restrictions are still in place.

"Although lockdown in Britain is easing, that’s not the case in other countries. It’s a real headache.

“Some of the show’s most famous moments have seen the candidates thrown in at the deep end to complete tasks in places where they don’t always speak English.”

Back in 2007, the contestants in series three were tasked with selling British food products in France, while other years have seen them travel to Morocco, New York, Dubai and more.

Meanwhile, Lord Alan Sugar admitted some of his 'Apprentice' investments have "benefited tremendously" from the coronavirus pandemic lockdown due to them being online, but 2019 winner Carina Lepore's bakery has "suffered".

Speaking to the Cambridge Union, he recently said: "Some of them have benefited tremendously because the online business has gone up.

"The bakery has suffered, as you can imagine. [Winners] have been told, if you fail, if you use up all the money, that’s it, it’s over."

In September last year, Lord Sugar hinted he will quit 'The Apprentice' when he reaches 20 years of the show.

He said: "I said last year that I wanted to do 20 years. We would have been doing series 16 this year and I was happy to do four more.

"But of course, it is the BBC who will decide if they wish to do it. I fully understand they are in charge but if they wanted to do it, I think 20 years is a nice round figure."
