Since the debut of the fourth season back in 2013, Arrested Development fans have been waiting on some news surrounding the promised fifth season for quite some time, but with a cast and crew of in-demand stars it's not been made easy for the team to get back together in the saddle to produce a whole new batch of episodes.

Head of content acquisition for Netflix Ted Sarandos has now addressed the status of the series' fifth season during this year's Television Critics Association, with those in attendance tweeting his words live from the event.

Producer Brian Grazer has previously hinted that the show's fifth outing could come to Netflix as early as mid-2016, but it's unclear if this is still the case as not much detail was given at the TCA event. Already with a writers room ready, it'd appear that creator Mitch Hurwitz and his writing team are now spending time breaking stories for season 5.

With nine main cast members to work with it's not difficult to imagine just how tough it must be to work out contract issues, and with a long line of recurring characters that are likely to also be called upon to star in the fifth season, it's a delay that's probably entirely necessary if fans are to get the best show possible.

Now with Netflix intent on pumping out more original content than ever before, it could just be a matter of time before negotiations are over and a fifth season is announced. We'll be keeping our eyes peeled...
