The stars from the two broadcasters will go head-to-head in the academic quiz show - which will be hosted by Kirsty Wark - to see who is the true champion on television to raise money for the charity telethon.

Kirsty said: “Hosting ‘University Challenge’ was the best fun to be had while raising money to give every child who needs it some hope and some care.”

‘Mock The Week’ comedian Dara O Briain will lead Team BBC and is joined by celebrity guests including ‘The One Show’ star Anita Rani, ‘Sunny D’ comedian Dane Baptiste and ‘Inside No. 9’ co-creator Steve Pemberton.

Dara said: “It's been a dream of mine to be humiliated on 'University Challenge' and now, it's come true!”

On the opposing side, ‘Cold Feet’ actress Fay Ripley will lead Team ITV with ‘ITV News’ presenter Charlene White, ‘Love Island’ narrator Iain Stirling and ‘The Masked Singer’ host Joel Dommett joining her on the panel.

Fay added: “To have the chance to take part in this ‘University Challenge’ for 'BBC Children in Need Special' and to be a Team Captain for ITV is an honour.

"'BBC Children in Need' is a renowned charity and 'University Challenge' is a show I have watched and enjoyed for many years so this is a brilliant experience!”

The episode was recently filmed ready to be broadcast as part of the 'Children In Need' night, which will be on BBC One on November 13.

Jo Wallace, Acting Controller of Entertainment Commissioning, said: “I'm so pleased that some of the most famous faces of BBC and ITV have come together for this brilliant cause, 'BBC Children in Need'.

"I hope viewers will enjoy the comradery and competitive spirit of both sides for a special night of 'University Challenge' whilst raising money for the charity.”
